The Housekeeper’s Office is located on the
ground floor. Residents should contact the Housekeeper or the
Bursar’s Office with any concerns or queries.
Single Room CleaningRubbish will be removed from student rooms daily (Monday to Friday). This is not optional as the Hall administration has a responsibility to ensure that the building is clean and habitable at all times. This procedure also ensures that any problems (e.g. a resident who is ill), can be discovered and dealt as soon as possible. Therefore, all requests for cleaners not to enter rooms will be ignored. Residents are asked not to leave their bins outside their rooms as they block the corridors, causing a fire hazard, and the resident will be held responsible if the bin goes missing. Any bins placed in the corridors will be emptied and replaced inside the room.
A full weekly clean of each room is also a condition of residence. This includes vacuuming, dusting all surfaces and cleaning the sink. Notices on each floor will display room cleaning days and residents should make a request to the Housekeeper if they wish to change their day. The rota will change slightly to avoid cleaning rooms on bank holidays. Cleaners are instructed not to move personal possessions, so it is essential that rooms are left accessible and tidy if cleaning is to be successfully carried out. Any obstructions to the weekly clean will be reported to the Bursar’s Office and the resident notified of the action required. Rooms in an excessively dirty condition may attract extra cleaning charges.
Flat and Studio CleaningIt is the responsibility of each resident to clean and look after their own studio or flat. There are a number of vacuum cleaners available for residents’ use, however all other cleaning materials must be purchased by the residents themselves. If residents so chose, they can arrange with the Housekeeper for their studio or flat to be cleaned by the Hall’s cleaning company for an additional charge, either on a one-off or regular basis.
Rubbish DisposalResidents must dispose of their rubbish regularly and in a hygienic manner. All rubbish should be sealed in large black refuse sacks and taken to the designated collection point. Failure to follow these guidelines will encourage pests like mice into the Hall and will also result in additional charges for rubbish clearance and pest control being raised for the residents.
Weekend CleaningAt weekends all rubbish is removed from common areas and the Bar, Lounge and reception areas are cleaned. All toilet and shower facilities are cleaned and toilet rolls and soap replaced.
General AreasCorridors and common rooms will be cleaned daily Monday to Friday.
Linen (Single Rooms)The Hall provides each single room resident with a bedding pack a mattress protector, flat sheet, pillow, pillowcase, duvet and duvet cover. The pack becomes the residents’ own property once they have completed their full period of residency in the Hall. Early departure will result in an appropriate percentage of the cost of the bedding pack being charged for. Residents are responsible for laundering the linens.
Linen (Studios and Flats)The Hall does not provide bedding or linen for the studios or flats. Residents will need to equip themselves with pillows and duvets, sheets and covers, etc, and residents must ensure that they use mattress protectors as stained mattresses will be charged for.
Studio and Flat InspectionsAt least once each term, residents will be given advance notice of an inspection of their flats. Hall staff will expect to find all areas being maintained in a clean hygienic condition. Any cleaning problems will be notified to residents in writing and must be rectified within one week, ready for re-inspection. If the studio or flat fails the re-inspection, the Hall will arrange for the area to be cleaned at the resident’s expense. All damages will be charged for.
Final DepartureThe studio or flat must be completely clean and free of rubbish when the residents depart. Any extra cleaning, rubbish removal or damages will be charged for. Residents will be required to arrange an appointment for a member of the
Bursar’s Office to undertake a final inspection as they move out so that any outstanding cleaning or damages can be agreed.
