Noise disturbance generally creates the most dissatisfaction with Hall life. In International Hall, it is expected that residents should be able to study at all times, so no noise should be audible beyond each study bedroom, studio or flat. All hi-fi equipment, TVs, computer games, etc, should be used quietly, with doors closed and, preferably, headphones used. Musical instruments must not be played in study bedrooms, a music practice room is provided free of charge and can be booked at
reception. Residents will be fined for causing excessive noise and repeated offences may lead to expulsion from the Hall.
Anyone disturbed by noise would normally be expected to approach the noise-maker themselves in the first instance. However, residents reluctant to do this or who have found it ineffective, should contact the Duty Officer through Reception. Duty Officers have the authority to confiscate offending noise-making equipment from a room until the end of term, whether the resident is present or not.
