February Greetings from the Warden

January has gone by in a flash and daylight hours are already increasing which means we are past winter’s midpoint. If that thought does not cheer you up, what we have planned for February should.

I am pleased to invite you to attend our first IH Community Forum to discuss any suggestions you may have to improve community life at International Hall. This event will take place 7.30-8.30pm on 21 February in the LG Lounge and we will have refreshments and pizza.

Our main event of the month is the Valentine’s Party in on 8th of February which promises to be another great IH celebration. The romantics among you may wish to use our anonymous online Valentine’s message box to declare your feelings for fellow residents with a chance of winning a prize for the best message. We will also have a Mamma Mia sing along event on the 12th and a Music night (with ice cream) on the 19th in the Common room.

Our sporting activities, including the very popular yoga sessions, carry on as usual, on Mondays, this month. Cardio kickboxing workouts are held every Wednesday at 6pm in the Squash court. Our dance series continue as usual on Thursdays in the Common room with sessions in Rumba, Tinku, Bollywood and Discofox. Special events for our Postgraduate community this month include a British Museum late on the 15th and a trip to Sky Garden on the 28th. You can see all of the events we organise here: www.internationalhall.com/events.

Next week (11 - 17 Feb), we will mark the LGBT+ week with an exciting walking tour of Soho on Sunday, 17th February. The tour will tell the stories of London’s queer history, shedding light on the lives, spaces, identities, repression and resistance that form the backdrop of LGBTQI lives today. To book your place on the tour please complete the form here:  https://www.internationalhall.com/events/tourofsoho.

IH Community Award winner for the month of February Ms Carolina Rosario.

Finally, this month’s IH Community Award recipient is Ms Carolina Rosario, one of our receptionists. Residents have described her as a very friendly receptionist who makes sure that residents feel welcome when they come back home. Carolina tries to always assist residents to the best of her ability. Please note that you can nominate any junior staff member (catering, reception, housekeeping and maintenance) via our website www.internationalhall.com/communityaward.

Happy February to you all!

Best wishes,
