March Newsletter from International Hall Warden

Greetings!

With winter finally ending this month, I hope you are enjoying the longer days and the off-and-on warm weather. We also have less than three weeks of the term left which must be good news for both those of us who teach as well as you the students.

From the last weekend we began the University Mental Health week at IH with a cupcake decorating and colouring workshop. This special week of events also includes: two screenings, namely, "The Mask You Live In" on the 6th and "Reign Over Me" on the 10th of March; a meditation session on the 6th; Crafternoon and Journal-Making Session on the 9th; and two outings: a trip to Hampstead Heath and a Battersea Cats and Dogs Hope visit on the 9th. The last three events promise to be popular with all residents including the youngest ones in our families community.

Following our first IH Community Forum on the 21st February, my team and I were very pleased to see from the feedback that vary many residents are enjoying the variety of events we hold at IH. We also received some great suggestions on how to improve the community at the hall and we summarised these in a few categories. Regarding noise in the evenings, there appears to be some lack of knowledge about the quiet hours policy and the reporting procedures. We will be circulating information about those through all our communication channels. A suggestion about change of time for kickboxing, a regular sporting event, has now been actioned. Feedback that was not part of the Warden’s team remit, i.e. to do with the facilities or catering, have been passed to the Hall Management team and catering management respectively. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for attending the event and contributing to the IH community.

Please remember that supporting the residents’ wellbeing is my team’s top priority. A Resident Advisor can be approached through the Reception between 6pm-8am on weekdays and throughout weekends and bank holidays. I am also available to meet with you by appointment or during my Open Office on 11th March.

Upcoming this month are also a Quiz on the 5th, Table Tennis Tournament on the 12th, Karaoke night on the 19th, and a FIFA Tournament on the 26th. Based on the success of our Beginner's Dance Workshops, we have decided to continue with them for the rest of the term. We have Swing with Adam on the 7th, Bollywood with Shivani on the 14th and Cha Cha with Bogi on the 21st.

Our yoga and football sessions will run as normal and the cardio kickboxing session will now be held on at a new time on Sundays from 6pm in the Squash Court. A special screening of the Six Nations Rugby Final will happen on the 16th from 12.30pm in the Common Room.

Further details for all events can be found on our website: www.internationalhall.com/events.

Our Community Award for March goes to Norbi Toma, our beloved weekday receptionist. He is described as very friendly and welcoming with a smile that brightens the residents’ day.

I wish you all productive last few weeks of term.

Best wishes,
Saeed
