With the end of the year in clear sight, I do hope you are managing the last few days of term in the hope of a relaxing Christmas break. To keep you going until then, we have many special events with a festive feel to them.
On Friday the 8th, we have both a Christmas dinner in the Dining Hall and the Christmas party (from 8pm onwards) in the Common Room. For those who have not yet found that perfect low-budget present for Christmas, on Thursday the 7th, there is an opportunity to learn to make it themselves in our candle-making workshop. On the weekend of 9-10 December, we have a visit to Crystal Exhibition and an in-house music talent show.
We also have a few festive films in the cinema such as Home Alone (on 7 December) or Love Actually (on 10 December). If you think movies need to be more challenging than those, you may want to join me for a discussion of the wonderful Battle of Algiers on 14 December.
For families with children, the Christmas party is on 10 December where Santa and his helpers will show up. They also have a screening of Captain Underpants on the 9th (a film discussion with the kids following that film is quite unlikely).
Now to our Community Awards: in November one of our receptionists, Norbi Toma was nominated by residents for a Community Award. Norbi has worked at IH for many years and he is a true member of community. He is known to make everyone welcome at IH with his “smiles” and “friendly chats” (as stated in the nomination form). The award is a small token in recognition of the quality of his valuable contribution to the International Hall community. Please note that every month you can nominate a junior staff member (catering, reception, cleaning and maintenance) using the Community Awards tab on the hall website.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!
