Queer Walking Tour of Soho

This a special tour organized for IH Residents by Queer Tours of London This tour would cover Soho's now-lost nighttime spaces from the 20th century, as well as the incredible queer pioneers that operated and frequented these spaces. The tour also covers political context of gay liberation in the UK.

The cost of the tour will be 5 pounds (please bring it with you when you come). We will meet at Reception at 11:30 am and then walk to Soho together.

Come join us for a visit to Tate Modern and Borough Market on Saturday 24th

We will be meeting at reception at 1 pm and be taking the tube to Tate Modern, if you prefer to meet us there, please wait for us at the front door by the riverside around 1:30, check the Facebook group for updates. 
After visiting the Tate we will be heading to Borough Market and taste the food it has to offer. 
We will be heading back to IH in time for dinner

"Mental Health" Art Exhibit Opening!

Come down to the opening of IH's first art exhibit! We've asked the residents of IH to create beautiful pieces of art around the theme of mental health. The exhibit will be up for one week in the atrium. 

The opening night will be a great opportunity to come down, have a look at everyone's hard work and get inspired. It'll be a really relaxed social atmosphere and free wine and juice will be provided!

We encourage all of you to join us in the Common Room on Monday 26th @ 7:30pm as a performer or audience in what hopefully becomes a very popular annual event at our great hall! Apart from entertaining, the event is also planned to be very educational!

Cinema Night: "Girl, Interrupted"

With all the events going on at IH for mental health awareness, it only seemed right to make the first screening of the month, a movie about mental health! So we will be watching, "Girl, Interrupted"! 

This movie stars Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (Angelina Jolie) in 2000.

Documentary Screening of "Stephan Fry: The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive"

Eleven years after Stephan walked out of the staring role in a West End theatre production and fled the country, Stephen Fry speaks of his battle with manic depression in a documentary breaking the taboos surrounding mental health. 

In the documentary the comedian, actor and author talks of his struggle with bipolar disorder and interviews others who have the condition.

We will be having a group discussion about mental health immediately after the documentary. [come along even if you can't watch the documentary :) ]

**Fun Fact: Stephan Fry was the narrator for ALL the Harry Potter books.**

Lord of the Rings MARATHON

The long awaited, Lord of the Rings MARATHON is coming to IH! The trilogy will be screened throughout the weekend of the Saturday 10th and Sunday the 11th of February. Here's the schedule of each movie screening:

Saturday 10th February: 

20:00-Midnight: "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"

Sunday 11th February: 

14:00-18:00: "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"

20:00-Midnight: "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"

Challenge yourselves and your friends to come to all or come to whichever one you want! There will be short breaks in between each movie for you guys to get some air, chat, get food, etc...

Murder Mystery Dinner

Join us for our annual special Murder Mystery Dinner! What is a Murder Mystery dinner, you ask? A murder mystery dinner is a type of dinner theatre in which audience members cooperate with each other and interact with performance cast members in order to solve a fictitious murder scene. 

About our Murder Mystery Night:  On Founder’s Day, the teachers and pupils of St. Cakes (a British Private Boarding School in the countryside) have gathered to honour the memory of the blessed Bishop Cakes. But the day does not go as planned, when somebody ends up dead. But who killed him? Was it a Teacher, a Prefect, a bully, a nerd? 

Tickets are £10 and include show, 3 course meal and wine. There will be prizes for the team that guess the murderer correctly and for best costume.

Limited number of tickets for this event are available until 4pm on January 31st and can be purchased in two ways. You will receive a confirmation email in both cases.

'Oscars' Cinema Night: "Good Will Hunting"

Continuing with the Oscars theme, we will be screening "Good Will Hunting", featuring Robin Williams and Matt Damon. 

Will Hunting, played by Matt Damon, is a janitor at M.I.T., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist, played by Robin Williams, to find direction in his life.

This won 2 Oscars, the Best actor in supporting role (Robin Williams) and the Best writing/screenplay in 1998.

On this tour organized by Wonders of London you will see places like Diagon Alley, The Ministry of Magic, the location of The Harry Potter Premiers and even give you a chance to stock up on Harry Potter Merchandise. So wands at the ready as we explore the story of the boy who lived.

This is a FREE 'pay as you can' tour. Which means we are encouraged to make a small contribution towards the Tour Guide who is taking the time to do this. We recommend a five-pound contribution per person.

With the Oscars 2018 coming up soon (early March), the rest of the movies this month will all be Oscar winning movies! We will be first screening last year's (2017) Oscar winner for Best motion picture, "Moonlight"! It also won 2 other Oscars, for Best actor in supporting role (Mahershala Ali), and Best adapted screenplay.
